Zubeir Mohamed, Bachelor-Studiengang „Praktische Informatik“, Praxisphase bei Microsoft in Dublin, Irland

Mein Name ist Zubeir und ich durfte für 12 Wochen, vom Juli – Oktober, bei Microsoft in Dublin (Irland) als Software Engineer Intern arbeiten, als Teil meiner Praxisphase. Im September hatte ich mich beworben und erhielt einige Wochen danach ein Online Coding Assessement von Codility. Dort werden mithilfe von Programmierfragen deine Kenntnisse in Datenstrukturen und Algorithmen getestet. Danach hatte ich ein Final Round Interview das ganze 4 Stunden ablief. Dort werden dir unter Zeitdruck verschiedenste Programmier-und Verhaltensfragen gestellt. Schließlich erhielt ich die Zusage und ab ging’s nach Dublin.

Die Organisation, bei der ich arbeiten durfte, heißt Supply Chain Planning und ist ein Unterprodukt von Dynamics 365. Da das Produkt noch nicht auf dem Markt ist, darf ich leider nicht viel preisgeben. Innerhalb der Organisation war ich Teil der Collaboration Truppe. Unsere Aufgabe war es, das Produkt so kollaborativ wie möglich für den Endnutzer zu gestalten.

Meine erste Aufgabe war es, eine kollaborativ-editierbare Tabelle zu erstellen mithilfe eines Datensynchronisierungs-Framework von Microsoft namens Fluid Framework. Das bedeutet, jede Änderung, die ich in der Tabelle vornehme, soll für Zuschauer, d.h. Nutzer, die sich auch auf der Webseite befinden, sichtbar sein. Gebaut habe ich das mit React und Typescript und die Verteilung lief natürlich auf Azure 😊.  Nachdem ich damit fertig wurde, durfte ich mich an die Arbeit einer Vollzeit-Entwickler setzen. Da Dynamics auf Power Plattform läuft, musste ich mich mit Power Apps und Model-driven Apps beschäftigen. Power Platform ist eine „Low-Code No-Code“ Solution, das Nutzern erlaubt, mithilfe von Drag-and-Drop ihre eigenen Apps zu bauen. Um die Flexibilität beizubehalten, gibt es das sogenannte Power Apps Component Framework das dir erlaubt, deine eigenen Web Bundles in deine App zu installieren. Microsofts Dublin Office hat eine Vielzahl an Vergnügungen, wie Gym, Massage, Sleeping Room, Friseur, Dreamspace, The Garage, Games Room mit Nintendo und XBox, Hololens und vieles mehr.

Langweilig wurde es mir nicht. Natürlich nahm ich mir auch die Zeit, Irlands Landschaften zu besuchen. Ich konnte Howth, Glendalough, the Cliffs of Moher und eine Vielzahl an Museen besuchen. Und besonders die Menschen hier sind extrem nett und zuvorkommend. Ich hatte eine großartige Zeit in Irland und konnte Freundschaften mit Menschen aus der ganzen Welt schließen und hoffe, dass ich das irgendwann wieder erleben kann.

I had the chance to do my internship at Northvolt AB in Stockholm, which is a battery cell manufacturer that develops high-performance lithium-ion cells with the mission to make the world’s greenest battery and thus, push the European transition to renewable energy.

Northvolt was founded in 2016 by Peter Carlsson, a former executive at Tesla Motors who is the company’s CEO. Today, the fast-growing Swedish startup has more than 3,700 employees from more than 100 countries.

What makes Northvolt special is its mission to produce the world’s greenest batteries and thus, revolutionize the industry and enable the future of energy. It’s great getting to work for a company where you can be sure that your work has a positive impact on the environment and will help the world become free of carbon emissions.

I took part in Northvolt’s summer internship program as a Frontend Developer in a team called „Production Control & Execution (PC&E)“. Our goal was to develop different applications for Northvolt’s battery factories that would help make production automated, secure and effective. It was a great experience to work in a Swedish startup. I got to explore its working culture and the work environment there, while working together in a team full of open, smart and helpful people from all over the world who hope to solve problems and achieve bigger goals together.

I also discovered my passion for Frontend Development. I never thought it could be so much fun to work on different kinds of coding tasks while developing user interfaces. I really improved my coding skills while getting to tackle new and exciting challenges every day.

To sum things up, my summer internship at Northvolt was the perfect way to develop myself further, both personally and professionally, and it exceeded my expectations on every level. It definitely opened up new perspectives for me and my career.
